I first heard about the law of attraction a few years ago and it changed my life.
If you haven’t heard of it, it basically says that everything in the universe is composed of vibrational energy. I’m energy, your energy, my dog is energy, my computer is energy. But, most importantly our thoughts are energy. The law of attraction says that like energy attracts like energy-positive thoughts attracts positive experiences and negative thoughts attracts negative experiences.
For example, if you wake up in the morning feeling awesome and well rested and you set a clear, positive intention for the day, such as, “Today is going to be a great day. I’m going to treat myself and others right, and notice all the amazing things around me. I’m going to accomplish my goals and great things will happen,” then you know what? Your day will be effing awesome. Your positive energy will draw more positive experiences into your life, because like attracts like.
If, on the other hand, you wake up and say, “Oh my god it’s Monday and I have five more days of this shit. It’s raining, I’m tired and I’m pretty sure my boss hates me,” then yeah, your day will probably suck. You’re in a bad mood, your energy is low, and your feeling anxious about going back to work, so you will draw negative experiences into your life.
Think about this:
You have it engrained in your head that your boss hates you so when he makes a snippy remark in the office, you’ll automatically jump to the conclusion that you were right and he does hate you. This will cause more tension, an undesirable work environment and more negative energy.
If you could see the situation for what it is, you might interpret it differently thinking, “Hey, he’s probably so stressed out from all the work he’s doing and is just taking it out on other people. I know I haven’t done anything wrong: the comment has nothing to do with how he actually feels about be.” By thinking like this, you’ll let the remark go and you won’t hold negative feeling energy towards him. You’ll go about your day feeling fine and getting your work done.
You can see there how the situation never changed-the boss did make a mean remark-but what really matters is how you reacted and interpreted it.
So, how can you begin applying the law of attraction to your daily life?
- Become aware of your feelings
How do you feel right now? Good? Bad? Anxious? Sad? Why do you feel that way? Can you do something to change it? Begin paying attention to your moods and emotions and notice what things drain you of your energy. How you feel in any given moment is directly related to the energy your putting into the world and the energy that you will attract. To feel better right now: Smile, Breathe. Text an old friend. Go outside. Think of things your grateful for. Speak to your self in a loving, caring voice. Refer to my very first post on cultivating happiness.
2. Use Positive Affirmations
If you’re trying to make changes in your life, focus on your attitude and perspective. Repeat positive affirmations to yourself every morning. For example, If you’re looking for a promotion, tell yourself, “I believe I am worthy and deserving of this promotion. “ Say it till you believe it.
If you’re trying to get healthy or lose weight tell yourself, “Every day I am becoming healthier and feeling better in my body.”
If you feel joy, enthusiasm and confidence as your saying these things, you’re doing it right. The key is to believe it. If you’re saying these things but still coming from a place of doubt and fear, it’s not going to work.
3. Create a Vision Board
A vision board is a collage of pictures that will remind you of all the amazing goals you want to achieve in your life. You can create one online, or go old school using poster board. For example, I have dreams of creating a healthy restaurant, learning to surf, becoming a yoga instructor, owning a beach house, and traveling to South America. So, my vision board consists of all these different pictures pasted on to a poster board. It’s hanging above my bed so I’m reminded every day of what I’m working towards. What are your dreams? It doesn’t matter how crazy they might seem-the first step is believing you can achieve them and reminding yourself to work towards them every day.
4. Give Away You Energy
Give. Give. Give. Be kind and helpful and loving and selfless with all people. This can be so scary because were so used to thinking in terms of lack. We think there will never be enough time or money, but there is! We just need to shift our thinking. If you begin to believe that there is plenty of everything to go around, you will be proven right and abundance will manifest in your life.
So thats about it folks.
I know for some of you this can seem pretty out there and weird, but I swear it works (I mean hey, it is a law). So, start paying attention to your feelings and begin speaking to your self in a kinder way. Stop telling yourself you’re not worthy or deserving of something, because you are. We all are. If you can approach your thoughts and life from a place of kindness and love instead of doubt and fear, your whole world can change.
